How does Trulicity work?

Used for a type of diabetes treatment, trulicity can limit the amount of sugar that enters the blood from the liver. It helps reduce the process of food passing from the stomach. It helps the pancreas release insulin in response to high blood sugar levels after meals.

How to use Trulicity Pen Injector

Before you begin using dulaglutide, and each time you get a refill, read the Medication Guide and Instructions for Use provided by your pharmacist. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Before using, visually inspect this product for particles or discoloration. If either of these conditions exists, do not use the liquid. Clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol before injecting each dose. To reduce injury beneath the skin, rotate the injection site each time.

As directed by your doctor, inject this medication under the skin in the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm once every 7 days. Injecting into a vein or muscle is not recommended. It can be taken with or without food.

If you are also taking insulin, administer both dulaglutide and insulin.

Drug Interactions of Trulicity

Drug interactions can alter the way your medications work or put you at risk for serious side effects. This document does not include every possible drug interaction.

Maintain a list of all the products you use (including prescription and nonprescription drugs, as well as herbal supplements) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medications without first consulting your doctor.

Beta-blocker medications (such as metoprolol, propranolol, and glaucoma eye drops like timolol) can help prevent the fast/pounding heartbeat that occurs when your blood sugar falls too low (hypoglycemia). These medications have no effect on other symptoms of low blood sugar, seuch as dizziness, hunger, or sweating.

Many drugs can have an effect on your blood sugar, making it more difficult to control. Before starting, stopping, or changing any medication, consult with your doctor or pharmacist about how it may affect your blood sugar.

Check your blood sugar levels on a regular basis and share the results with your doctor. If you experience symptoms of high or low blood sugar, contact your doctor right away. (See also the section on Side Effects.) Your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet may need to be adjusted by your doctor.

Usual Adult Dose for Diabetes Type 2:

Initial dose: 0.75 mg subcutaneously once a week
-Dose may be increased in 1.5 mg increments for additional glycemic control; patients should remain on 3 mg once a week dose for at least 4 weeks prior to increasing dose to 4.5 mg once a week
Maintenance dose: 0.75 to 4.5 mg subcutaneously once a week
Maximum dose: 4.5 mg weekly

Comments:
-This drug should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
-This drug has not been studied in patients with severe gastrointestinal disease, including severe gastroparesis and is not recommended in these patients.
-This drug has not been studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis; consider other antidiabetic therapies in these patients.
